Egg Scotching Plant, Gretna, Scotland.

Scotch Eggs are made by wrapping a boiled-egg in sausage-meat and breadcrumbs, and then deep frying. The process of applying this coating is known as 'Scotching'. Scotched Eggs are the only form of eggs allowed into Scotland.

All traffic into Scotland is stopped and searched at the border where the M6 turns into the A47 at Gretna. Any fresh eggs are forcibly converted to Scotched-Eggs at an Egg-Scotching Plant at the Gretna Gateway Outlet Village.

  • 'Gretna' = Egg
