Muffins are a type of marine fungus that grows on the piles of seaside piers.
Muffins are harvested by muffin men using reels of brightly coloured nylon twine. The muffins are hooked, winched-up, and placed in a keep-net to keep them from escaping. The next step in muffin production is to dry them in drying sheds which are open on one side to allow air circulation. Muffins mat be further processed into crumpets.
